Located within the rolling countryside of Monpazier, Biron allows you to be whisked back in time.
This small south-western village in France is particularly renowned for it's impressive castle, Chateau de Biron.
Chateau de Biron
Listed as a historic monument in the valley of Biron, Chateau de Biron dates back to the 12th century, providing sweeping views over the fresh countryside of Lède. Entering the Chateau via an internal courtyard, you'll almost be able to immerse yourself back in time with the Italian renaissance style fused with a late flamboyant gothic interior in which the two Gontaut-Biron brothers had restored in the 15th century. Nowadays more of a work of art which you have to visit when in the Dordogne region, you'll not only be able to explore the grand grounds of the castle but you'll also be able to admire some local and iconic artworks as the site hosts frequent exhibitions - When Hidden Gemsss visited we were lucky enough to view the french artist, Lydie Arickx (pictured above).
Tip: Although Biron is rather quaint and petite, it's definitely a place to have a wonder or drive around with it's Domaine de La Tuque vineyard and forest surrounding the valley.
On a side note, if you want another fascinating historic village, only an hours drive from Biron you'll come across Duras. If you weren't able to enter their castle, not to worry as opposite you'll stumble across a low-key cafe called La Terrasse, it's here where you'll be astonished about how cheap but delicious a glass of Rose is!
