Blending high-tech elegance with down to earth grit is what makes this raw city a beautiful medieval puzzle.
Why is Bologna called Bologna? Bolognese is what drew Hidden Gemsss to stop here and one ristorante in particular was finger-licking good.
Ristorante Al Pappagallo
Just a stone’s throw from the Torre Alberici and set in a historical 14th-century stood Ristorante Al Pappagallo since 1919. A mandatory stopover to truly taste Bologna's authentic cuisine, flavourful wines and the roots of Bolognese - Tagliatelle Ragu. Known for its innovative design, impeccable hospitality and not to mention a key celebrity hangout, Pappagallo is one to tick.
Tip: Although sitting out in the sun is glorious, make sure you have a wonder inside to take a look at all their photographs hanging, you'll be surprised at the amount of people you'll recognise!
On a side note, to the east of Piazza Maggiore lies Quadrilatero. This vibrant district is a great place for a wander with its market stalls, cafes and gourmet delis.
