Pristine emerald coloured waters, surrounded by idyllic villages and striking beauty, Lake of Sainte-Croix truly is a magical haven.
This incredible lake is most definitely one of the best places Hidden Gemsss has stumbled across in Europe for a quick dip or for a glass of Rose in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon
Immersed in a landscape of pure perfection, where sand-stoned villages with cobbled streets, quaint cafes and wine bars are perched on hillside 513 meters above sea level intertwine with olive trees, mountains and the beating sun glistening on the magnificent, manmade vision of Lake of Saint-Croix. This off the beaten track, untouched gem truly is a place to 're-charge your batteries' and soak up the simplicity of this planets beyond-belief nature.
Tip: One of the most remarkable villages in the Var region overlooking the Lake is Bauduen, this definitely is one place to stop by to enjoy the views, eat typical french cheese and drink a crisp glass of wine.
On a side note, if you're road tripping like we did and want to try and live cheaply whilst on the road, in France there's 'Aire de Service' where you can stay in car park / camp spot for free or for a very small price, here in Saint-Croix there was a fabulous place to sleep with wonderful views.
