With a good central transport line, South may seem crowded however it also has a village-like feel that fuses the best of the rural and urban worlds.
From Peckham with it's edgy yet creative vibe, London Bridge offering famed markets and monuments, Vauxhall's floating boats and independent breweries to Southwark's hidden bars and warehouse feel buildings, South London has a lot to offer.
Franks Cafe, Peckham
Truly defining edginess yet creativity is a special summer spot, Franks Cafe. The flagship architectural, virtual arts space of Bold Tendencies has been a huge success and ace addition to Peckham. An abandoned car now turned into an art gallery leads you to the top floor where you'll step into Franks Cafe. An open aired deck offering spectacular views across London, sunset soundtracks and tasteful food & drinks to hangout.
Tip - Drink: Got to go with their Pimm's & Lemonade on a hot refreshing evening. Food: Their 'Brown Sugar Hot Wings' are banging.
Maltby Street Market, Southwark
Situated under 19th century railway arches and entwined in-between streets within Bermondsey and London Bridge known as 'Ropewalk', Maltby Street Market most definitely is a hidden yet famed foodie gem! On the right side of the alley you'll be blessed with over 10+ mouth-watering produce stalls and on the right discover the local eateries and shops. Full of colour, chatter and charm we hope you love this market as much as we do.
Tip - Drink: If you love a fresh brew like we do, grab a cup of Craft Coffee. Food: Duck Frites confit wrap is a winner.
Bermondsey Arts Club, Southwark
Quite literally cocktails in an old abandoned loo, Bermondsey Arts Club has become quite the niche place to head too around the Southwark area. Close to the acclaimed Tower Bridge and perched by buzzy Bermondsey Street, this cocktail joint is an intimate, art deco-style hideaway with a unique selection of craft cocktail and live jazz nights.
Tip - Drink: Their 'Scratches' cocktail gives that immense smokiness taste with a touch of Mescal, olé. Food: Primarily cocktails but go on then, have an olive.
Vinegar Yard, London Bridge
Minutes away from the iconic monument 'The Shard' alongside the well connected station, London Bridge, you'll come across Vinegar Yard. The fairly new community space fusing gastronomy, art and retail it's the perfect place for an afterwork drink, catch up with a buddy or a rummage through their clothes stalls. Vinegar Yard certainly feels like the social hub of the area and one not to miss when you're around.
Tip - Drink: Head to their bar and grab a pint of Blue Moon. Food: Hand pressed burgers and their famed croquettes, oh yes Nanny Bill's has a pop-up here!
Comptoir Libanais, London Bridge
When you step inside Comptoir Libanais it instantly puts a smile on your face with their electrifying decor, upbeat music and a space full of delights and flavours that truly get those tastebuds excited. With several around London, the London Bridge branch is definitely our favourite, Comptoir Libanais has brought a taste of the Middle East to the city and marked the Lebanese food market as one to definitely love.
Tip - Drink: Alcohol free? Their homemade lemonades are delicious! Food: Lamb Kofta Tagine (pictured above) was mouth-wateringly good.
Casa Do Frango, London Bridge
Honestly, Casa do Frango is the ultimate Portuguese restaurant in London. What more could you want than an authentic setting in a central location? Casa Do Frango brings a light, fun atmosphere with sharing tables, industrial decor and plants everywhere which give a sense of tropical-ness to the space. This is a definitely one to check out when you're in the London Bridge area, it really has brought the magical Algarve flavours to London but with a cheeky twist.
Tip - Drink: If you're waiting for a table, head to their hidden cocktail bar through the secret door - 'The Green Room'. Food: Well, you've got to try their Piri-Piri Chicken otherwise you're missing out! We also love their 'African Rice'.
Borough Market, Borough
One of the largest, oldest and most popular produce markets, Borough Market has certainly made a name for itself worldwide. For over a thousand years this market has been providing the finest quality of goods within Southwark. Blending a vast variety of colours and smells to bring people together in a fun, loving and exciting atmosphere, Borough Market has helped proven that London is a key global city and player in the world of traditional and regional products.
Tip - Drink: Head to the Chegworth Valley stall (pictured above) for the best and freshest juices around. Food: Shellseekers Market Kitchen do a one of a kind Venison Burgers!
Padella, Borough
Nestled by the very popular 'Borough Market', Padella has certainly cemented itself as a key eatery in Borough. A very intimate space usually means there's a bit of waiting time but we promise it's worth it! Famed for it's fresh, house-made pasta dishes alongside Italian fine wines and drinks Padella is a place that will always call for you to return.
Tip - Drink: You can't go wrong with a Primitivo 2017, Puglia! Food: Anything from the menu to be honest but their 'Pici Cacio de Pepe' and 'Pappardelle with 8 hours Ragu' are incredible (pictured above.
Mercato Metropolitano, Elephant & Castle
Known as the first sustainable food market in the city, Mercato Metrpolitano embraces a sense of community to not only revitalise neighbourhoods and protect the environment but also enhance Elephant & Castle's gastronomy scene by bringing a wide range of international independent vendors to it's open space. Whether you want to partake in a workshop, eat & drink or listen to some live music, this is most definitely the hub of Elephant & Castle.
Tip - Drink: The 'German Kraft' stall brings you the best Bavarian beer with it's in-house brewery. Food: Envisioned with an Italian soul, head to it's deli, wine store or pizza stand for an authentic taste of Italy.
Mothers Kelly, Vauxhall
You may think there's not much to do around Vauxhall, well before you head elsewhere, you'll be disappointed if you didn't step inside Mother's Kelly. Inside the stripped-back railway arches you'll find a rather spacious, sprightly setting. Mother's Kelly is a brilliant independent bottle-shop & taproom with over 33 different types of beers on offer as-well as pop-up vendors if you fancy a nibble on something.
Tip - Drink: We love a Pale Ale, give 'Track Brewing Co' a go! Food: Depending on what food vendors are on offer, they're usually all tasty, Yuncatan Taqueria served up awesome tacos last time we were there!
Tamesis Dock, Vauxhall
Another gem in Vauxhall is this beaut of a spot, Tamesis Dock! Once a 1930's Dutch barge now converted into a neighbourhood bar, live music and events space, Tamesis Dock is a pretty nice post work, weekend hang-out located between Lambeth and Vauxhall Bridge. With indoor and outdoor seating, and wicked views of Parliament, London Eye and Battersea Power Station it's certainly one to visit.
Tip - Drink: Take your pick, they have a lovely large variety! Food: Can't beat a good old Chicken Burger!
